The Imperial Blue Enamel Ribbed Egg was created sometime before 1899 as a gift from Czar Alexander III to his wife Maria Feodorovna. The blue enamel egg was overlaid with gold ribbing and sitting upon the top of the egg is an Imperial Crown set with diamonds and sapphires from which gold lilies of the valley spray downward. The egg opens to reveal a miniature figure of a rabbit made from agate and set with ruby eyes.
This cross stitch design was inspired by the elements of the Imperial Blue Enamel ribbed Egg, and features the gold ribbing on a blue background, with the rabbit at the centre and the Imperial crown at the top.
