The Imperial Coronation Egg was created in 1897 and given by Czar Nicholas II to his wife, Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna, on the first Easter after their Coronation. The egg itself is made up of a translucent yellow enamel over a sunburst pattern ground and set on top is a trellis of gold laurel leaves with black imperial Eagles at each intersection. The gift inside the egg is replica of the coronation coach.
This mini cushion design was inspired by the Coronation Egg and features the yellow sunburst pattern with detailed imperial Eagle motifs. The lining of the egg, in which the replica coach sits, is cream velvet and the coach in this design is surrounded by cream coloured stitches. The sides of the design feature the sunburst pattern found on the top of the egg, which represents the large table-cut diamond and its surrounding frame.
