St Francis of Assisi was the Patron Saint of Ecology, which was a title honouring his boundless love for animals and nature, and he is the theme of this mini cushion cross stitch design. St Francis was a Catholic friar who gave up a life of wealth to live a life of poverty. He established the Franciscan Order of friars and was born in Assisi, Italy in 1182.
This design features St Francis with the stigmata of Christ (marks resembling the wounds Jesus Christ suffered when he was crucified), which he reportedly received after a vision in 1224, and also a Dove flying close, representing faith and purity and the story of his salvation of a boy and the doves he had caged.
This mini cushion cross stitch kit includes: 14HPI white aida fabric, ready-sorted DMC stranded cotton threads on a card sorter, needle, black velvet backing fabric, b&w symbol chart and full instructions PLUS a display stand (cushion filler not included).

This design does not have to be made up into a mini cushion as it would also make a lovely picture for framing.
