The Imperial Orange Tree Egg was created in 1911 and presented by Czar Nicholas II to the Dowager Empress Marie. The 'tree' egg is made of carved nephrite leaves and dotted with white enamel and diamond blossoms and Oranges formed of pink diamonds, citrines and amethysts. The tree is planted in a white quartz gold trellis tub with hanging swags of green and gold enamel with ruby fasteners and four nephrite posts in each corner topped with pearls. A small songbird with real feathers springs from beneath the upper leaves when a certain orange is turned.
This cross stitch design features four images of the bird, nestled within the orange and blossom adorned tree. The edges of the design feature the swags and green, gold and pearl colours of the tub in which the tree sits.
This mini cushion counted cross stitch kit includes: 14ct white aida fabric, ready-sorted DMC Stranded Cotton Threads on a numbered and symboled card sorter, needle, backing fabric, b&w symbol chart and full instructions (cushion filler not included).
Design size: 5¾" (14.7cm) square.
Only whole cross stitch is required with a little backstitch needed on the bird features.
